The PARS model contains twelve techniques which practitioners use to help children follow their own interests from a \u2018safe enough\u2019 perspective. Een paar jongens die reeds meerdere malen eerder vuur hadden leren maken, begonnen dit keer te kokerellen. Daarvoor hadden we met hen duidelijke afspraken gemaakt, vooral op het gebied van veiligheid van de nietsvermoedende kinderen in hun omgeving: \u201cDe gietijzeren pan enkel met de handschoen vastnemen en enkel binnen de vuurschaal of op de tafel.\u201d
Andere jongens die voor de eerste maal in de Wildernis waren zijn dan natuurlijk ook begonnen met het maken van vuur. Op een bepaald moment flakkerde hun vuur gigantisch op en zag ik te midden van dat vuur een pot met water staan die super hard aan het koken was waardoor het water zelfs over de zijkant klotste en door de onstabiele plaatsing van die pot, een vrij gevaarlijke situatie vormde. Ik ben er met de informatie die ik al had opgedaan vanuit gegaan dat zij ook wilden koken. Ik heb hen gevraagd of ze eten maakten en welk gerecht het was. Het bleek vissoep te zijn met een karkas dat ze bij het water hadden gevonden.
Door hen de vraag te stellen of de pot stabiel stond en wat er zou gebeuren indien deze zou kantelen, was ik suggestief genoeg geweest om hen automatisch afstand te doen nemen van dit gevaar (AQMS). Door deze conversatie waren ze wel instant getriggered om daar iets aan te doen, maar door de duidelijk merkbare impulsiviteit waarmee \u00e9\u00e9n van hen met een stok opnieuw naar het vuur stapte om de pot uit het vuur te duwen heb ik dan maar vlug zelf snel het vuur uit elkaar geduwd.
Daarna hebben diezelfde kinderen verder gekookt aan hun vissoep op een veel bewustere wijze. Hierdoor was een omgevingsscan van op afstand genoeg om af en toe de situatie te beoordelen.<\/p>\n

Deze specifieke situatie hebben we nadien met de begeleiders doorgesproken en we constateerden dat we allemaal vonden dat alle kinderen wat te dicht opeen speelden en dat ze allen wel vrij bewust zijn van de gevaren die hun eigen activiteit voor hen betekent. Maar de gevaarlijke situaties rond hen blijken moeilijker in te schatten.
Daarom hebben we beslist om de vuurschalen en de werkbanken verder uit elkaar te zetten en dat lijkt nu zeer goed te werken.
